"Peter's Denial," by Carl Bloch |
For too long, we Catholics have been acting like milquetoasts in the toxic culture we live in. Some of us seem to think that being a Catholic means to not rock the boat, to not make waves, to never say anything which will upset people, and to generally be a go-along-to-get-along kind of guy/gal.
Well, those days are over. The culture and the political machine in charge of Washington DC are now antichrists, and America is becoming less and less Catholic - friendly. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy, with the homosexual priest scandal of the last decade, voting for the most pro-abortion president in American history, and not speaking up for Christ when well-meaning protestants or atheists attack the Church with their words and deeds.
What's the answer? GROW A BACKBONE! Say your rosary every day .... Go to daily Mass to get some of the daily bread that we pray for in the Our Father ... Go to Eucharistic Adoration if it's available .... EVANGELIZE people with words, deeds, and by leaving holy cards in public places.
Like our ancestors who had to choose between worshiping Caesar or Jesus, we 21st Century Americans now have to decide between either obeying the political machine in DC who promotes free contraception and abortion (and they want you to pay for it as well!), or obeying the Holy Catholic Church started by Christ in Matthew 16:18.
Now is the time, this is the place. If you died today, would Jesus tell you, "Well done, good and faithful servant!", or would He shake his head in disbelief that He showered you with unlimited grace in the sacraments and you decided that you didn't want it because you preferred contraception, a political machine, abortion, sex outside of marriage, acceptance of homosexuality as being OK, or whatever other anti-biblical stuff the culture says is the in-thing?
May the peace of Christ, through the intercession of our Mother Mary, come to us all, and give us the grace to fight back against the evil tide of our toxic culture in America, which was formerly known as the land of the free and the home of the brave...AMEN
